The National Trust – A Career For The Military Spouse

The National Trust – A Career For The Military Spouse

Recruit for Spouses are proud to partner with the National Trust as an employer offering huge potential for military spouses to find fulfilling jobs and careers that work for them.
The National Trust needs people, people like military spouses, up and down the country with passion for their work and the special places the Trust keeps alive.
Volunteers, I hear you say?  Well, yes, the Trust does welcome many thousands of volunteers, but did you know the National Trust is a huge employer with over 11,000 employees  in permanent positions.  In fact, 40% of the Trust’s current job adverts are for permanent positions, from catering and retail to marketing and IT, in 120 different locations all around the UK.
With that mix of flexible opportunities and UK-wide reach, we believe the National Trust is an ideal employer for military spouses.  Add to that the buzz of a great cause, and with so many hidden benefits once employed by such a prestigious employer,  it only gets better – how many people can say they work in John Lennon’s childhood home, a peacful nature reserve or an archbishop’s palace?
RFS recently supported Sally Groce into employment with the National Trust, she started her new role as a retail assistant in Salisbury in early 2017 and is really enjoying the flexibility it brings as well as being a Mum to three girls.
“I’m over the moon! Thank you to Recruit for Spouses for advertising the position as I would not have known about it otherwise!”
“I’ve been welcomed into this role by colleagues who share a vision and passion for the cause, and with that combination greeting you at the office door every day, it’s easy to feel inspired and part of the team.” Laura McHale, Head of Philanthropy
“The variety within the role is unparalleled, and brings with it freedom and opportunity to try new things. Some of the training and study has been life-changing.” Liz Green, Curator
As well as caring for hundreds of Britain’s most treasured places and spaces, the National Trust is also a big investor in its people, from training and development to support for flexible working.  For spouses, this represents a great opportunity to develop new, transferrable skills, or to re-enter the workplace and rebuild confidence after a career break.
Ella McPartlin of RFS says “Transferring those skills doesn’t have to mean leaving the Trust either, as with other employers we work with who have a National reach,, there’s a strong chance of finding a new role within the Trust when the time comes to change posting”.
It all sounds great, you may think, but what about the pay.  As with any organisation in the not-for-profit sector, pay is often not the first motivator or strongest reward. However, the Trust offers competitive, benchmarked salaries and a total reward package that includes some uniquely attractive perks alongside more typical benefits.  Where else can your job get you and your family free entry to the country’s best countryside and historic buildings, or a hefty discount on holiday cottages and be able to take your dog to work?
The National Trust, are looking forward to the future with RFS
“It’s early days in our partnership and we’ve had some initial success sourcing candidates via Recruit for Spouses.  Now that our ways of working are agreed, we can work in a targeted way, focused on the locations that match up well for the Trust and military spouses.  Here’s to future success.”
